The competency centre for research, development and innovation perceives its role as supporting scientific and research activities at the RFH across all areas. The competency centre provides a point of contact and competent support in all matters pertaining to research.

The competency centre for research, development and innovation provides a point of contact for anyone with questions about research projects, from general information and acquisition through to project planning and applications. The centre provides advice on funding opportunities for R&D from state, federal and EU sources and drafts the contracts with the respective project partners. It provides a full range of project management support in the administrative procedures involved in research projects and manages third-party funding.

Current legislation stipulates that all inventions of members of universities must be reported to the employer in writing prior to publication of the invention, irrespective of whether they are the result of regular employment, secondary employment or in the context of third-party projects. In case of use, the university scientist is entitled to 30 % of contractual proceeds. The competency centre for research, development and innovation advises on matters of patent and utilisation issues and provides support in applying for industrial property rights.
