Application and Admission Procedure

Here we explain how to apply at our university:

1. Admission Requirements

If you wish to commence studies at the Rheinischen Fachhochschule Köln (RFH), we require proof of one of the following qualifications:

In principle, you need to have completed a 6-week general internship prior to commencing your studies, in an area corresponding to your course selection. An apprenticeship or work experience in a field relevant to your studies can be counted as meeting the requirements for an internship.

For specific information pertaining to the requirements for the internship, please refer to our internship guidelines and the excerpt of the bachelor examination rules for the study areas listed. (documents in German – English translations to follow)

Furthermore, special conditions apply to the selection procedures for the Media Design and Business Psychology courses, which can be found in the respective course programme descriptions on our website.

Foreign candidates for our courses have to sit a language examination, if your secondary school qualifications or university degree were obtained abroad.

The prerequisite for the Masters course is the completion of an undergraduate degree.

2. Registration/Applying for a place at the university

You can request our registration form free of obligation. This form and our information brochure is then sent to you as by email as a PDF file. Please print out the form and return the signed and completed form together with the required documents to by mail to the RFH. Please note that some documents require certification. (see address below)

3. Selection procedure

Once we have received your application, we will check to make sure it is complete and send you an acknowledgement of receipt and, if requirements are met, further forms (e. g. student contract), which need to be sent back signed and completed. If any documents are missing, we will ask you to submit these as soon as possible.

The respective selection process will determine whether you gain admission.

4. Admission

If you are successful in the selection process (starting in July for the winter semester and in January for the summer semester), you will receive your notification of admission explaining further steps required for enrolment in the mail.

5. Enrolment and Signing the Contract

Now you can enrol at the RFH within the deadline for enrolments specified in your notification of admission. Anyone with a written power of attorney may enrol you on your behalf. After the deadline for enrolments specified in your notification of admission has lapsed, the place reserved for you will be allocated to another applicant. The students contract only takes effect after enrolment and the scale of fees apply. Please note, that withdrawal from a course of studies does not automatically terminate the contract. Due and proper notice of your termination of the contract is required. The periods of notice are stated in the student contract.

Studies commence either:

Lectures commence either on the second Monday of September (for the winter semester) or of March (for the summer semester)
